YEMI MARIE
Heats Up Summer 2014 with New Music and
Anti-Bullying Campaign
Teen singer and songwriter Yemi Marie continues to spread good music and positive messages to Chicago’s youth with new music and her ongoing Anti-Bullying Campaign. The young singer will stay busy this summer with concert and festival performances, in addition to continuing to present her lauded Anti-Bullying Campaign to Chicago children and teens.
Yemi Marie’s hot new single “Love Bop,” which features Chicago rapper DLow, is getting great airplay on radio stations Power 92, B96 and WKKC 89.3 FM. In addition, her soulfully joyful single “Real Thing” is being played on Comcast Music Choice urban adult contemporary, Clear Channel’s iHeart radio network and on WLTH 1370 AM. In addition, “Real Thing” is No. 1 on the prestigious Starfleet Music Pool (international music list) in two slots – the Indie Chart and the Urban Hip Hop Chart. “Real Thing” also is No. 13 on Starfleet’s Crossover Dance Chart.
Yemi’s record company, Prize Music Entertainment, as well as radio stations, are getting calls from fans inquiring when Yemi’s full CD will be released.
“I’m very happy that my songs are gaining airplay and winning new fans,” says Yemi Marie. “When I create a song, I write and sing from the heart, and I want to share the good feelings with listeners who care.”
After a Spring season that saw Yemi Marie performing before thousands at the Black Women’s Expo 20th Anniversary at McCormick Place, opening for the popular boy group Mindless Behavior and entertaining thousands of teens at the Arie Crown Theater, Yemi already has a full summer schedule that includes the World’s Largest Steppers Cookout and Barbecue on June 29 at 159th and Torrence in Calumet City, and a float in Chicago’s legendary Bud Billikin Parade on August 9. These performances lead up to Yemi Marie’s Anti-Bullying and Educational High School Concert at River Oaks Mall in October 2014.
In February, Yemi Marie was named “Most Promising Teen Producer” at the Chicago Music Awards. She also was honored in May with a “Heroes in the Hood” Award at the DuSable Museum of African American History for her “meritorious service” in the community. Also in May, Yemi participated in the Infinite Scholar Scholarship Expo at Englewood High School, and entertained at two Chicago Sky WNBA halftime shows at All-State Arena. The busy teen also performed at the 2014 East Lake Windy City Track & Field Banquet hosted by former track stars Elzie L. Higginbottom, president of East Lake Management and Development Corporation, and Dr. Conrad Worrill, executive director of the Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies at Northeastern Illinois University.
The multi-talented young artist also performed on her first advertisement, an ad for Medical Professionals for Home Health Care that aired on BET, CNN and the Family Channel, among other networks. Yemi Marie has been interviewed on WVON Radio numerous times and featured on Columbia College Chicago’s radio and television broadcasts. Articles about Yemi Marie have been published in the Chicago Defender newspaper, the Chicago Citizen, Northwestern University newspaper and in the Chicago Tribune’s MASH student newspaper that is distributed in 2,600 schools in the Chicago Metro area.
As a child, Yemi Marie sang in her grammar school’s talent show, wowing fellow students and teachers with “A Song for Mama,” made famous by Grammy Award-winning Boyz II Men. Influenced by fellow Chicagoan Jennifer Hudson, as well as Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Whitney Houston, the teen worked hard to develop her own style and fine-tune her song-writing skills. She has performed before crowds both large and small while honing her vocal abilities and stage presence. In 2012, Yemi Marie was named Top Talent by the Talent Shines International Talent Convention. Her performances, for which she earned top scores against thousands of contestants, were broadcast live around the globe from Disney World in Orlando.
